The area

There are lots of attractions to visit while here in Vendee, too many to list but here are a few

We are ideally situated for supermarkets and attractions;10 minutes drive into the large town of Fontenay-le-Comte,10 minutes drive into the town of La Chataigneraie.

We are 5 minutes drive into the historic village of Vouvant, one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are a selection of bars, cafes, restaurants, boulangerie, mini market, post office, estate agent, gift shop, art shop and pharmacy. Several art galleries.

Mervent Forest is 5 minutes drive from us, which extends over 5,000 hectares. Mervent – with its lakeside restaurants, the Mervent dam forms a beautiful and vast lake. Lots of sporting activities – hiking, fishing, cycling and many water activities. There is also a Zoo at Mervent, Pierre Brun childrens activity park. There is also horse riding, bike hire and scenic walks around the lakes and nearby countryside.

La Rochelle and other attractions are within 1 hour away. The area is ideal for those wishing to go outdoor, walking, cycling, on a boat.

The Puy du Fou Theme Park

This very popular park offers a multitude of spectacular shows ranging from gladiators in a life-sized colosseum, Vikings, musketeers, medieval knights, Napoleonic sailors and a fantastic bird of prey show – Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes. In the evening there is an awesome sound & light show, Le Cinéscénie, tracing the history of the Vendée through the years.

Coast/Beach:

Beaches are approximately 45 – 60 minutes drive from us.

There is also a man made beach 15 minutes drive from us, where you can hire pedalos, there is a childrens play area and picnic area.

The Vendée is famous for being the second sunniest part of France after the Mediterranean coast, boasting over 3,000 hours of sunshine every year. It is also the second-most-visited area of the Atlantic Coast for French holidaymakers. There are over 140 kilometres of sandy beaches to choose from, including long, safe beaches for surfing & body boarding such as Les Conches or La Terrière; rocky beaches for finding crabs & fossils, like Jard and St Vincent; and flat beaches for sand yachting and kite flying, such as La Faute-sur-Mer and Veillon Plage.

The bustling seaside towns of La Tranche-sur-Mer and St Gilles Croix de Vie offer lots of summer entertainment on the beach and in the streets in the evenings, with singers, fireworks, concerts and street entertainers amusing the holidaymakers.

The Marais Poitevin, the Venise Verte

The Marais Poitevin is ideal for exploring the waterways and wetlands of the beautiful pretty villages with ruined abbeys, waterside restaurants and miles of canals to punt along – either with a guide or independently. There is abundant wildlife to see and lots of beautiful scenery, guided walks along the towpaths and traditional crafts kept alive in village studios.

The O’Gliss Water Park & O’Fun Park

For adventurous families, visit the O’Fun Park, where you can fly through the trees on zip wires, shoot down some of the amazing water slides, go karting, pony riding or sumo wrestling – plus much more.

La Rochelle. Attractive and unspoilt seaside town in France – lots of history. Plenty of places to eat and drink.

Pescalis – Nature and fishing centre in Europe.

There are lots of lovely walks in the area.

In Vouvant or Fontenay le comte are Tourist offices which are filled with leaflets full of places to visit, things to do.
